Looking behind: In class Darcy and I did a bismuth lab it was really successfully, I am really proud of our final product. We only did the lab once and we got really pretty crystals. We didn't let it oxidize very much because we wanted a gold color,by covering it with a pot while it was cooling. This led it to become a more gold/blue color.
Looking beyond: I found it really interesting that the amount of oxygen that got to the bismuth it changes the color. The more oxygen the more purple, the less oxygen, the more gold. Some other thing i found interesting was when it was melting it got so hot that it got to the point that it wouldn't boil.
Looking inward: I really liked the crystals we made because we knew what color we wanted before we oxidized it we got lucky because we waited a little too long to pour it but we poured it any way I did appreciate the first batch at first, but the shapes were not as cool and unique as the latter. I was very proud of my lab, but I was also really proud of my soldering ability. However, I did need a lot of assistance with the soldering because I had never done it before. All in all, I was very proud of my lab results and the product I made is important and really nice to look at.
Looking outward: I really enjoyed working with Darcy because we work well together and I liked what we did Looking forward: if I were able to do this over again I think I would want to do this by my self because I would be able to keep all the crystals I made. But I would work with her again.
Take away: What I took away from doing this lab is that I should try melting other thing and see what I get.
