Looking Back:
Our experiment did not go very well. Our end result didn't turn out as we thought it would but we tried our best. Making bath bombs may seem very simple and easy. But in reality it's a struggle. We did some research and the ingredients for it are pretty simple to mix. We think the reason why our bath bombs didn't turn out correctly was because at first it was too powdery and so we added a bit of water to thicken but that made it too watery and sticky. The ingredients and materials we used were:
- Citric Acid - Large pot
- Corn Starch - Molds
- Baking Soda - Whisk
- Food Coloring - Gloves
- Lemon & Orange Oil scents
- Water
Looking Beyond:
Baking soda allows the powder to rise, the cornstarch soaks up all the water, we learned the hard way that the more cornstarch you add the more loose and powdery it becomes. when the citric acid and baking soda comes in contact with water it has a chemical reaction. That chemical reaction is when it starts to fizz up, which is the reason why they are called "bath bombs"
Looking Inward:
I did not get the results that I was going to get. I was expecting them to turn out like the ones you can get from Lush. But I have learned that not every experiment that I do will turn out the way I want it to. But I will not stop trying out new and interesting experiments
Looking Outward:
I worked with Darcy for this lab. I really like work with her because we work well together and we both get our work done. Even though I've worked with Darcy for all of my experiments I think we make a good team. I think what make us work well together is we both have interest in the same things most of the time. I am pretty sure I would not want to work with any other person than her because we just get along and with other people I feel like we would argue a lot and but heads.
Looking Forward:
If I could do this again I would I would try to stick to the recipe. The reason why I say that is because if it turned out as a more powdery substance we would add water which could potentially make it worse and ruin the whole lab
Take Away:
Some things that I took away from this was that we should stick to the recipe, and also baking soda is what make the substance rise. we noticed this when it was in a bowl it started to become puffy and we didn't know why.
